Cancer Massage

Oncology massage (Cancer Massage) is the adaptation of massage to safely nurture the body, mind and spirit of those dealing with cancer. It is based in two things; compassion and specialized massage treatment. We want to meet them exactly where they are in their experience, and then apply a massage treatment that is individualized specifically for them to help support and comfort them.

Massage and Bodywork are increasingly important components in the struggle against one of the most prevalent diseases known today Cancer. It bolsters the immune system and helps remove toxins from the body. It helps with circulation and restores energy. It reduces pain and minimizes the effects of radiation and chemotherapy treatments. It enhances a patient’s body awareness and allows them to direct energy towards healing. It aids in equalizing blood pressure, helping with fatigue and anxiousness.

In short, massage and bodywork therapy counteracts many of the negative physical and emotional symptoms for individuals dealing with cancer. Research has shown that more than 61% of individuals dealing with cancer use some form of complementary or alternative medicine, including massage. The research concludes that patients receiving massage therapy can expect improvement in their:

Anxiety, Pain and Nausea
Improved Sleep and Reduced Pain
Enhanced Immune Function
Greater Sense of Wholeness and Awareness

Being a volunteer for UNITE FOR HER, which is a fabulous organization for breast cancer. I engaged in continuing education courses specific to oncology massage focusing on breast cancer and became certified to help those dealing with this horrible disease. My experience working with women with their unfortunate prognosis of breast cancer has been none the less rewarding, compassionate and positive in their overall healing process.
